Pre stamp folded letter written from 'Santa Christina, Marquises' dated 'June 2nd 1838' addressed to 'The London Missionary Society, London' routed via New South Wales with bold oval 'Paid Ship Letter/ (Crown)/ Sydney' in red dated 'Sp 8 1838', rated '3' in m/s, erased and endorsed '1/- (Toulmin Packet rate), on reverse boxed 'India Letter/ Deal' in red (Robertson In. 1) with London receiver '25th Jan 1839'.

Letter written from Santa Christina, Tahuata, the smallest of the inhabited Marquesas Islands by missionary George Stallworthy. Perhaps the earliest known item of postal history in private hands from the Marquesas.
