Gold Coast. (Third Ashanti Expedition). 1900. Cover FRONT endorsed 'From K. Moucell E.K.A. 'H.M.S. "Curacao" , Cape Coast Castle' signed by the Commanding Officer, addressed to Devonport, Devon bearing Great Britain SG 172, 1d lilac tied by British numeral '466' of Liverpool with 'Paid/ Liverpool/ Br. Packet' in red on face dated '26th Jul 00.'

The Anglo- Ashanti War of 1900 saw the fort at Kumasi attacked on 29th April. A rescue party of 700 arrived in June and many of the besieged escaped out and arrived at Cape Castle on 10th July. A second relief force arrived on July 15. This item was posted on 'H.M.S. "Curacao" and arrived in Liverpool 26th July.
