Netherlands East Indies. (War of Independence). 1946. Printed illustrated 'In Actieve Dienst' envelope from '1st Company, 1 - 1 R. Inf. X Brigade, Java' addressed to 'Post Box 212, Singapore' bearing Netherlands Indies SG 476, 30c grey tied by 'Post - A - Div/ Soerabaja' rubber stamp in violet dated '21st July 46'. Very attractive military cover.
The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
